Whole New Definition of Pen Spinning / Santa Arakawa, Pen Spinner

Action speaks louder than words.

Santa Arakawa's edgy talent fits perfectly to this expression. Check this video out first.

Santa, 19, is an expert in pen spinning. Yes, something that you used to (or still) do while you were bored in a classroom/office, but Santa's spinning technique is much more trickier. Santa can spin many more times, both vertically and horizontally.

Santa was exposed to the world of pen spinning --just like any others-- in a classroom.

"It started when I was in the 8th grade of middle school. During a science class, I and my friends were talking about how to do pen spinning. Then, a teacher approached to us and proudly showed how to do it. I was really impressed and I began to practice rigorously from then."

Later, he googled and looked for how the tricks are done. Eventually, he found a website for pen spinning enthusiasts. In here, each pen spinner contributes new tricks by a movie clip. From this web-based community, he expanded a pen spinning network and shared the skills. In January, 2010, Santa was invited by apm mall (developed Sun Hung Kai Properties) in Hong Kong to perform pen spinning.

For the pen, Santa customize it extensively.

"Balance and weight are important factors when spinning. What I do is buy several pens and disassemble them first. Then, Put the parts together to create an optimized pen for spinning. In the past, I must have bought more than 500 pens."

Santa grinned.

Santa is currently attending a college, majoring video editing.

"I was doing self-studied video editing when I was contributing pen spinning video pieces. It was fun to do and I decided to go on further."
