no seat, more space

As many people knows, Tokyo is notorious for its morning commuter rush on a train. (Well, may be not as bad as India.)
多くの方がご存じだと思うが、東京は通勤ラッシュの過酷さで有名だ。(インドほどひどくはないだろうが。)

Unlike India, all the Japanese trains run with doors closed, so there's need for more space to squeeze people in.
インドと異なり日本の電車はドアを閉じて走行するため、可能な限り人を詰め込むスペーすを作る必要がある。

In order to do that ---- eliminate seats temporarily.
これ回避するための方法ーー席を一時的になくすことだ。

During the morning rush hour, some of the Yamonote-Line (one of the busiest lines in Tokyo) car seats are folded. This is effective from the first train to 1000. (These pictures were taken at 0600 -- before the hour begins.) After 1000, a seat can be unfolded manually.
朝のラッシュアワーのみ山手線の一部の車両では座席が折りたたまれており、使用することができない。始発から朝の10時までがこのような状況(この写真の撮影は6時頃。まだ混む前。)で、10時以降は席を使用することができる。
